Who we are and how to contact us
The Coordination of Social Inclusion Partnership or CoSIP for short, is a Partnership of over 30 Agencies in County Durham, working together to ensure that children and young people under 19 access the most appropriate out of School Social Inclusion Programmes. All schemes will focus on educating young people through sport, outdoor community activities, drama, media and the arts, to be active, positive members of their community.
There are 6 local area CoSIP groups operating within the County, one of which is the Sedgefield CoSIP group which is co-ordinated by the Youth Engagement Team.
The Sedgefield CoSIP team have developed this website and a number of its members would like to offer you the opportunity to communicate with them on issues that are relevant to their service.
Each identified contact has agreed to respond to any question, query, complaint or suggestion you have within a seven day period.

County Durham Children's Fund
Hello,
The Children's Fund forms part of the Government's drive against child poverty and social exclusion. It covers the age range 5-13 and sits between the provision offered through Sure Start for the under fives and the Connexions and Education in the Community Services for young people over 13. The Children's Fund was launched in 2000 and currently has an operating remit until 2006.
The purpose of the Children's Fund is to encourage children and young people's participation within local services and help to develop programmes for children and young people which address prevention.
The Children's Fund and Sedgefield Borough Council part fund a participation officer who works closely with the Sedgefield Local Strategic Partnership and its Children and Young Peoples Partnership to develop and encourage participation.

Community & Voluntary Organisations in Sedgefield - CAVOS
CAVOS provides advice and support to a wide range of community and voluntary groups working across the Borough of Sedgefield.
We also run a Volunteer Bureau that provides support to anyone interested in becoming a volunteer as well as to groups who would like to involve volunteers.
If there are any young people who are interested in finding out about volunteering opportunities then they can contact us.
Volunteering can provide people with the skills and confidence to do what they want to do and there are so many opportunities available there is something to suit everyone.

Connexions County Durham
Connexions is a support service for all young people aged 13-19. We can provide information, advice, guidance and support on a wide range of topics to help young people prepare for adult and working life.

Cornforth Partnership - Next Step Youth Programme
The overall aim of Cornforth Partnership's 'Next Step' Youth programme is to improve the quality of life for over 400, or so, young people of Cornforth between the ages of 11 and 22 years.
It aims to tackle the factors which contribute to their physical, social, educational, economic, personal, and emotional isolation through sustainable solutions.
The programme has developed numerous activities and projects including the domestic violence peer education group, Tackling Drugs Together Initiative, play schemes, health zones and numerous personal development exercises and trips away.

Young Carers Project
DISC Young Carers provide support, advice, One to One work, Support groups, respite, Training and Family work, to young people between 5 and 18 years old.
We cover the following areas:
- Sedgefield
- Durham
- Chester le Street
- Wear Valley and Teesdale
A Young Carer is anyone between 5 to 18 years who cares for a member of their family, usually their Mother, Father, Brothers, Sisters or Grandparents with a disability or illness. If you would like to know more about DISC Young Carers Support, you can contact us at:

ACTIVITIES CO-ORDINATOR
Durham County Council - Education in the Community
Education in the Community (EitC) works in various locations across Sedgefield Borough.
Locations include: Spennymoor, Chilton, Ferryhill, Newton Aycliffe, the Trimdons, Fishburn, Sedgefield and Shildon.
EitC employ youth workers who deliver a variety of activities for young people and that might include: Project Work (mosaic, mural, environment, community gardens, diversity, etc etc), Detached Work (youth workers meeting young people on the streets to identify their needs), Outreach Work (youth workers meeting young people on the streets to attract them to centre based provision), Issue Based Work (HIV, Teenage Pregnancy, Sexual Health, Safe Sex, Healthy Eating, etc etc), Sports Activities (football, unihoc, basketball, badminton, etc etc), Accreditation (workers will support and encourage young people to use their activities and work to gain a qualification for their endeavours).
Alongside this EiTC can offer a variety of non-accredited and accredited training courses (Level 1 Youth Work Course, Reiki 1, 2, 3 and Masters, Crystal Healing, Computers for beginners, Clait, Sage, etc etc etc for 16 years plus in local venues.

Leisure Services - Positive Futures Programme
Sedgefield Borough Councils Leisure Services Department aims, to develop with our partners a range of quality leisure, cultural and educational opportunities for the enjoyment of our customers, which are equally accessible to all.
Located within the Leisure Services Department the Youth and Sports Development Team manage a range of accessible activities including, Holiday Play Schemes, Airtime Mobile Skate Park, Sports Coaching Courses, Arts and Creative Activities, Positive Futures Activities and Cyber Cafes.
The Department manages four Leisure Centres across the Borough; these are located in Spennymoor, Ferryhill, Shildon and Newton Aycliffe. They provide a number of activities, both organised in house and enable local clubs/groups to hire facilities.
In partnership with the National Railway Museum the department also operates Locomotion the National Railway Museum Shildon. One of the regions leading visitor attractions.

What is Sedgefield Positive Futures?
It is a local partnership, delivering physical activity programmes, arts and cultural events and educational trips to "Young People aged 10 - 19 years" who are perceived as being at risk of substance abuse and or behaving in an anti social fashion.
Sedgefield Positive Futures is part of the County Durham Positive Futures Network, which includes each of County Durham's Districts. This is the largest Positive Futures network in the Country and is being considered as a national flagship project for delivery.
Activities
Activities in this programme include:
Sports (such as the Football in the Community projects), Swimming, Basketball, Table Tennis, Tennis, Indoor and Outdoor Athletics, Indoor Rock Climbing, Snorkelling/Scuba Diving, as well as providing opportunities for Arts and Educational themes such as Arts And Drama workshops/courses, Trips to Arts museums (Baltic, Discovery etc.)
Other activities we have provided are Go Karting, Paintball, Quasar, Pony Trekking, Chill Out Zones and Cyber Cafes, as well as offering the opportunity to achieve accredited Coaching and Educational courses.
All activities are targeted towards 'at risk young people' and are provided free of charge.

County Durham - Youth Engagement Services
County Durham Youth Engagement Service (CDYES) is a multi-agency partnership, led by Durham County Council (Social Care and Health, and Education), with Police, Health and Probation.
The Principal aim of the Service is to prevent offending by young people under 19.
County Durham Youth Engagement Services is organised into 3 locality-based teams:
- CDYES North (Derwentside, Durham and Chester-le-Street)
- CDYES South (Teesdale, Wear Valley and Sedgefield)
- CDYES East (Easington)
CDYES also has three county-wide teams:
- Prevention
- Restorative Justice
- Intensive Supervision and Surveillance
CDYES is both a children’s prevention service and a criminal justice agency. We ensure that young people access suitable accommodation, education, training and employment, mental health and substance misuse services, if needed. We engage young people in a wide range of prevention programmes designed to prevent offending and re-offending through education, art, music, drama, sport, community action and organised activity.
